Wayne Encalade Obituary

SFC (Ret.) Wayne David ("Shabba" "Zulu") Encalade was born on April 15, 1947 in New Orleans, LA and passed away at his sister's home on February 12, 2023 at the age of 75. Beloved and proud father of Aundre (Lenita) Encalade, Sr., Swan (Mackeaver) Rivers, Jerell (Kelaya) Encalade, and Christina Encalade. Grandfather "GP" of Mellonease Kirksey (Anjuan), Aundre Encalade, Jr., Mikayla and Chandler Rivers, Josiah and Alicia Encalade, and Ja'lynn Crosby and great grandfather of Sanaii and Kai Kirksey.
He is survived by his five sisters, Gwendolynn Adams, Ginger Ben, Stephanie (Antoine) Duplessis, Leslie (Eugene, Jr.) Picquet, Rae (Kevin, Sr.) Riley, and his good friend and cousin Ursula "Nonnie" Barthelemy. Wayne also leaves behind 3 Godchildren, Joel Frederick, Trina Bryan, and Tamisha Isidore. Wayne is the uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. He often told all of them they were his "favorite."
He is predeceased by his parents, Albert "Junior" and Dorothy "Dottie" Encalade.
Wayne joined the military immediately after graduating from Phoenix High School in 1965 and is a Vietnam War Veteran who served his country for 22 years collectively between the United States Air Force (4 years) and the United States Army (18 years). Although he lived out of state while on active duty, Wayne was eager to return home to Pointe a la Hache in 1992 where he lived out the rest of his life. He was well known in the community and leaves behind many friends and relatives that loved and respected his larger than life personality.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cutting grass, and cooking. He loved to dance and was always eager to give one of his "wet" kisses. He had a special name for each of his nieces and nephews and his entire demeanor would change when in their presence. He loved spending time with his little buddy Kayden Barthelemy and couldn't wait to tell anyone who would listen how much he loved that little boy and how smart and funny he is. Wayne loved his family, church, and community and lived his life to the fullest.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass on Saturday, February 18, 2023, 9:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 17605 Highway 15 in Pointe a la Hache.
