Warren Bridgewater Obituary

Warren John Bridgewater Sr. affectionately known as “Tonto” or “Bridge” was born to the union of the late Rachel Bellazzaire Bridgewater and Freddie Bridgewater on June 17, 1943, in Plaquemine, LA.  He entered eternal rest and gained his wings on September 9, 2022, at the age of 79.  Warren grew up in Harvey, La. with his 14 brothers and sisters, where he attended Elm Grove Elementary School. He went on to graduate from Lincoln High School in 1963 and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge on a music scholarship.  He loved to sing, he became a member of the school choir and sang in a quartet, and he also enjoyed playing football and basketball.   Warren served our country as a proud army veteran and was united in Holy Matrimony to Madeline Keller Bridgewater in 1965. He was the father of 4 children Warren J. Bridgewater Jr., Anneka Henderson, Veronica Bridgewater, and Philip Bridgewater.  He was also a father figure to two of his nieces and one nephew Deonka Mazie, Germaine Jack, and James Bridgewater. Warren was a supervisor at Westside Transit when he noticed that there was no bus service in certain areas, so he purchased his own bus company called Harvey Transit Lines, which provided a bus route for many families. He later worked for Jefferson Parish Park and Recreation where he made an impact on the lives of many young people until he retired.  Warren was a member of All Saints Catholic Church where he was an original member of the Men of Vision and sang in the choir.  He leaves behind his wife Madeline, his children Warren Jr (Roxanne), Anneka (John), Veronica, Philip, Deonka, Germain (Mark), and James (Edith).  25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, his sisters and brothers Mildred Roussell, Deloris Darrensburg and Daisy Wilson, Harry and Leonard Bridgewater and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends to cherish fond memories.  He was preceded in death by his Parents Rachel and Freddie Bridgewater, his sisters Melva Faye Boone, Geneva Bridgewater, Francis Bridgewater, Patricia Huskey, and Bernadette Lain, and brothers Lionel, Larry, Lawrence and James “Monroe” Bridgewater.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend services which will be held on Thursday September 22, 2022, at All Saints Catholic Church from 8 a.m., to 10 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow.  Repast will be at St. Joseph the Worker Hall, 455 Ames Blvd., Marrero LA, 70072.
