Tamara "Mook" Smith was born on May 7, 1987 at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was baptized at a young age at Greater St Stephens Full Gospel Baptist Church. Later, she became a member of The City of Love in New Orleans, Louisiana under the tutelage of Bishop Lester Love.
Tamara graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Minor in African American Studies in 2010. She also received a Master of Social Work from Southern University at New Orleans in 2014. After graduating, she began her career as a Social Worker for the Texas Department of Children and Family Services in Houston, Texas.
In 2019, she created TTS Publishing for which she was the CEO, sole owner and operator. On June 15, 2019, she released her first book, The Story of A Purple Heart. As a result, she was an avid domestic violence advocate and proponent. Her second book, Why Not Me?, detailed her health journey from 2019 to present. The book remains unfinished but her legacy lives on.
On Friday, October 20, 2023 at 8:48 AM, Tamara transitioned to Heaven. Her zest and fun-filled spirit will forever be loved and remembered by her mother: Sybil Smith, father: Wilbert Smith Sr., brother: Wilbert Smith Jr. (Kayla), and sisters: Leketha Smith and Tranice Gibson, nephews: Jakhai D. Pugh, Wilbert Smith III, and Legend Henry and nieces: Honor Smith and Jhai Dream Hudson, whom Tamara affectionately referred to as her Daughter.
She also leaves to mourn her grandmother, Vera M. Johns and bonus grandmother, Althea R. Quinn, Uncles: Kenneth B. Johns, Jerry Johns Jr., and James "Pig" Smith Sr., Aunts: Lynette M Johns-Major Sr. (Micheal), Carolyn Smith and Kathy Mallet. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jerry Johns Sr. and grandmother Ruby Lee Smith. She also leaves to mourn a host of cousins, other relatives and devoted friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, November, 4, 2023 at The City of Love Full Gospel Church located at 8601 Palmetto St. New Orleans LA. 70118. The visitation will begin at 9AM followed by a 10AM service. Bishop Lester Love pastor. Minister Latasha Williams Joseph will officiate. Entombment will follow in McDonoghville Cemetery located at 520 Hancock St. Gretna La.
