Joyce Marie Johnson Franklin was born October 22, 1951, to A. C. Johnson and Vidalia Johnson in New Orleans, LA. She departed this life on Thursday, June 23rd, 2022, in New Orleans, LA, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Sister Franklin received her educational foundation in the Orleans Parish School System and graduated from George Washington Carver Senior High School and attended Southern University of New Orleans. Sister Franklin accepted Christ at the age of 7 years old and was baptized at Mount Moriah Baptist Church by Rev. Alja Myers, she was later united with her mother at 1st Zion Baptist Church, Pastored by Reverend Norwood Thompson Sr.
Sister Franklin was united in holy matrimony on August 3, 1974, to Hayward Franklin, Sr. from this union, two children was born, Dana Marie Franklin and Hayward Franklin, Jr.
Sister Franklin joined Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in 1977, pastored by Rev. Moses S. Gordan, II where she served as a lead soloist in the choir, Sunday School Instructor, and the Pastor’s Secretary for 21 years.
Sister Franklin later joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Donald Robinson, where she served in the choir. Sister Franklin was known for her singing and kind personality and was always encouraging to others.
Sister Franklin joined Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in 2009, pastored by Rev. Fred Luter, where she was a dedicated choir member.
Sister Franklin was a member of the Voices of Triumph Singers of New Orleans, and song for many weddings and funerals held throughout the city of New Orleans.
Sister Franklin and her husband Hayward Franklin, Sr. owned Franklin Transportation for 18 years and Franklin Supply and Services, Inc.
Sister Franklin was very excited to become a grandmother in 2015 to Hayward Franklin, III and to Kobe Dwayne Franklin in 2018, her grandsons became her pride and joy, and gave her a reason to keep fighting and pushing on with life.
Sister Franklin was proceeded in death by her Mother Vidalia Johnson, Father, A.C. Johnson, husband Hayward Franklin Sr., Sisters Alverda Myers Hill, Annie Lee Myers Lightfoot, and Mary Ann Myers Jones. Brothers John Henry Myers, Fred Myers, Manual Myers, and Alzida Myers,
Sister Franklin leaves behind her loving daughter Dana Marie Franklin, her caring son, Hayward Franklin, Jr. and his wife, Khalilah J. Franklin. Two Grandsons, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life services which will be held on Saturday, July 2nd, 2022, at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church located at 8282 I -10 Service Road South, New Orleans, LA 70126. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Fred Luter officiating, and entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery located at 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue, New Orleans, LA, 70122.
Services will also be live streamed via Franklin Avenue Baptist Church (online.church)
The family also invites everyone to share with them at the repast which will be held at Exquisite Banquet and Events LLC., located at 9810 Lake Forest BLVD, Suite 112, New Orleans, LA 70127.
