Shirley "Mama Shirley" Elizabeth Simms

Shirley Elizabeth Simms "Mama Shirley" entered eternal rest on Friday, August 26, 2022, in RiverRidge, LA.  She was 84 years old.      

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Leon and Adele Carey, her brothers, Albert Carey, and Michael Carey, as well as her sisters, Audrey Taylor, and Mary Carey, and three granddaughters, Keisha Bilbo, Karen Bilbo, and Tiffany Page. She is also preceded in death by a truly faithful and wonderful friend, Joan Bennett.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories her 4 children Evelyn (Lucas) Simmons, Emelda Bess, Bernard ‘BJ’ (Robin) Bilbo and Erica Bilbo.  Shirley is survived by 19, grandchildren and 30 Great Grandchildren.  Shirley has 3 surviving siblings, Leon (Marjorie) Carey, John (Rebecca) Carey, and Bertha (Jessie) King.  She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephew's other relatives and devoted friends.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service which will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at 701 Huey P. Long Ave, Gretna, LA 70053, at 10 a.m. 

Due to COVID – 19, facemask are encouraged.
