With profound sadness we announce the passing of Shawn Keith Matthews, our loving devoted son, father, and friend. On December 5, 2022, He left us while sleeping at his residence in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was 42 years old and was born on November 18, 1980, at F. Edward Hebert Naval Hospital, to Lynn Matthews and the late Horace Cutlet.
Shawn attended L. B. Landry High School in the Algiers, New Orleans neighborhood. He was a carpenter by trade and a proud member of the South-Central Carpenters Local 1846 union. Shawn had an effervescent personality and was the life of the party wherever he went.
He is survived by his children Shawnrika Matthews, Caleb Matthews, Cameryn Matthews, Chase Matthews, Jayden Matthews, Daeshawn Matthews, and Taylor Harold, his mother, Lynn Matthews, his siblings, Trent Matthews, Walter Matthews and Laketha Matthews-Hawkins, his uncles, James and Michael Matthews, his aunt, Connie Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Shawn Matthews is preceded in the death by his father Horace Cutlet, his grandmother, Gloria Matthews, his aunt, Sharon Matthews, and his uncles, Ronald and Anthony Matthews.
Relatives and friends of the family, as well as those that Shawn touched are all invited to attend his celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Fisher Community Church located at 1737 L.B Landry Ave. New Orleans, La 70114. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m., and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Bishop J. Nelson Brown is the host pastor, and Pastor Joseph Recasner officiating.
Interment will be private.
The family also invites everyone to share at the repast that will immediately follow the celebratory service at 1200 Teche St. New Orleans, LA 70114.
