Sharon Marie Stewart Simmons

Sharon Marie S. Simmons was born on November 28, 1949, to the late Oliver Sr. and Ethel Mae Stewart, and she departed this life on December 8, 2024. She was the second child, following Oliver Jr. and preceding Debora and Anthony Stewart. Sharon was a lifelong resident of Algiers and a graduate of L.B. Landry High School. She retired as a paraprofessional for the Orleans Parish School Board and was an avid Saints and Pelicans fan. Her hobbies included drawing, knitting, watching sports and crime shows, spending time with loved ones, and reading her Bible. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Sr. and Ethel Mae Stewart; grandparents, James Oliver and Pauline Stewart, Joseph Harris Sr. and Josephine Taylor; brothers, Oliver Jr. and Anthony Stewart; aunt, Winifred Taylor Hughes; and uncles, Joseph Harris Jr. and Don Leon Taylor. She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Derek and Lesley Clark, and Tiffany (Anthony) Walton; grandchildren, Vintrell, Teyonn, and Taivian Ennis, and Moriah Clark; great-grandchildren, Kayden Cobbins and Brielle Ennis; her sister, Debora S. (Melvin) Collins; sisters-in-law, Sandra Stewart and Donna Lynn Ross-Stewart; aunt, Ernestine Harris; and beloved nieces and nephews, Syritta (Eddie) West, Brandi (Brian) Thomas, Oneka (Sam) Griggley, Melvin Collins III, Alexis (Anthony) Wright, Nicholas, and Justin Griggley, Lauryn West, and Blake Thomas.

Sharon also leaves behind devoted family friends, Denise Jones and Brenda Scott, and a host of relatives and friends to cherish her memory. Sharon will be remembered for her love and care for her family and friends, her selflessness, wisdom, and deep faith in God. She found great joy in teaching others about Him, sharing His love and grace with everyone she met.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Greater St. Mary Baptist Church, 1533 Horace St., New Orleans, LA 70114, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. The viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., with the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Restlawn Park Cemetery, Avondale, LA.
