Sandra Claudia Smith

Sandra "Teenie" Smith peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Touro Hospital. She was an 81 years old native of New Orleans, Louisiana. She dedicated over 20 years to the Orleans Public School System until her retirement in 2005. She is remembered for her smart wit and sharp tongue.

She leaves to cherish in her memory her children Alton and Sonja Melancon, her grandchildren Frank Bowman, Laquanda Melancon, Siquira Bowman, Alton Bowman, Sandrika Melancon and Adrian Bowman. Her great grandchildren Dyjanai James, Frank Bowman, Jr., Neansha Bowman, Keansha Bowman, Donte' Melancon, Ayden Bowman, Lyiah Jordan, and Saint Jupiter. Her sisters Beulah Anderson (Thomas) and Betty Bijou. Her nieces Karen Lewis (Brian), Lynn Lastie, Sandra Lastie, Eboni Anderson-Flood (Reggie). Her nephews Jimmie Lee "Lil Man" Smith III, Warnell Bijou, Troy Lastie, Byran McDaniels, and great-nephew Wynn Williams, Jr. She also leaves a host of other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jimmie and Beulah Smith, grandson Deiontay Melancon, brother Jimmie Lee "Man" Smith, II, brother, Clifford Bijou, sister Marva "Babee" Patterson, nieces, Carol Lastie Pullins, and Cynthia Lastie, nephews Rynell Bijou and Terrence Anderson.

Relatives and friends of the family, pastors, employees of the Veterans Hospital, Touro Hospital, Touro at Home, and Passages Hospice are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Gentilly Baptist Church, 5141 Franklin Avenue, New Orleans, LA., 70122 with visitation at 10:00 a.m., and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
