Sabatain "Mista" Black, entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 20, 2023, in New Orleans, LA. Sabatain was born August 11, 1978, to Jake Black Sr. and Leverne J. Black. He was a resident of Rushville, LA.
Sabatain was baptized at Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, in Rushville, LA by Rev. Dr. Darnell Smith Sr. He attended Belle Chasse High School. Mista was a self-taught barber by trade. His shop was located on his parent's screened in front porch. In his later years he became a laborer: skilled in drywall, painting, and construction work.
He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Leverne J. Black. His children, Sabatain and Tyrin Barraza, Dylan, Jacob, Devin Black, and Brooklyn Shea. His grandchildren Princeton and Aliaus Barraza. His siblings Grace, Gary, Walter Sr. (Shelia), and Stefan Black, Isaac Smallwood, and Delicia (John) Nathan. A devoted confidant Whitney Hicks. Godparents Barbara Bentley, Rev. Dr. Haywood Johnson Jr., and Rev. Nathaniel Jimcoily. And a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by father, Jake Black Sr. His siblings Jake Jr., Charlan, and Chermaine Black. His grandparents Haywood Sr. (Patsy) Johnson and Leonard Sr. (Grace) Black. His uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mista was a loving person with a funny, joyous personality. He was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need, a true servant. He had a good heart and even when it was broken into pieces, he still found a piece good enough to give to the person who needed it.
We are extending an invitation to relatives and friends, also pastors, officers and members of the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of Ironton, LA, Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church of Rushville, LA, neighboring churches, Plaquemine Parish School Board, Institute for Networking Community Services, Dave and Busters as well as Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Office to attend the Celebration of Life Services which will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 14747 LA-23, Belle Chasse, LA 70037. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and the service will begin at 11a.m. Rev. Dr., Joseph Brooks is the host pastor and Rev. Dr. Haywood Johnson Jr., is officiating. Interment will follow at Bayhi Cemetery, 14977 LA-23 Rushville, LA 70037.
