Rosie "Mama Rose" Mathis Dillon was born March 9, 1938 to John Bee Mathis Sr. and Annie Belle Williams Mathis. Her Christian journey began at an early age. She was a faithful member of Hollygrove Baptist Church of Wisner, LA before relocating to New Orleans, LA. Her education was at Wisner Senior High School. Mama Rose worked over 50 years in the medical field at Ochsner Hospital on Jefferson Highway. After retiring, she began a second career as a personal care attendant at Chateau Notre Dame. She was a pillar of her community and the last of the oldest matriarch in her Carrollton neighborhood.
Mama Rose would part with anything except her plants that she kept herself surrounded with as one of her hobbies. Her pastime consisted of traveling, eating out and enjoying blues music at Margie's Place on Broadway and Earhart. She was the owner of several properties throughout the Carrollton area known as Mama Rose Place. During the holiday season, she loved to decorate her home which was always impeccable.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother great grandmother, and bonus mother. On Monday, September 30, 2024 Rosie "Mama Rose" Mathis Dillon received her wings to enter the Pearlie gates. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, John Bee Mathis Jr., Samson L. Mathis Sr.; sisters Lizzie Mathis, Sannie Mathis Harrell; daughter Kim Rose Dillon Martin and granddaughter Kenyada Harris.
Mama Rose love and legacy will carry on through her devoted children and God-fearing family. Rose Mary Smith of Texas, Lawrence Clark Jr., Carolyn Ann Clark Fountain bonus daughters Dr. Jacqueline Clark and Josephine (Julius) Taylor. Brothers, John Bee Mathis Jr., and Sampson Mathis Sr., sisters; Lizzie Mathis and Sannie Mathis Harrell and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Robinson Family Funeral Home 9611 LA-23, Belle Chasse LA. 70037. The visitation will begin at 10AM followed by a 11AM service. Rev. Jordan La'Vell Robinson Sr. will officiate and entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue, New Orleans LA.
