Richard Roland Casby (Better known as Booster) was born in New Orleans Louisiana on Oct 25, 1941, to Willie & Zelma Simmons Casby. While living in Louisiana he met Lorraine Gilbert and together they had two children, Linda & Jerome Casby. He later moved to Chicago Illinois where he live out the reminder of his live life. There he met & married Ethel Prim Casby. They had no children together, but he had several stepchildren with her.
While living in New Orleans he attended school at McDonald 32, then L.B. Landry High School. He then worked at Todd Shipyard, The Sewage and Water Board, Bayroy & on the Tub boats. When he moved to Chicago, he worked at the glue Factory & later worked as a Xray Technician. He was a man of many talents.
Richard departed his life for a better home in glory on March 21, 2025. His human spirit has taken flight at the call of all wise and loving God.
He received Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age at First Free Mission Baptist Church in New Orleans. When he moved to Chicago Illinois, he became a member of the Third Baptist Church and became a member of the Usher board.
Richard was very easy to talk to. He had a great sense of humor. He gave you his opinions whether you wanted it or not. He was outspoken and strong willed. Richard was a man with much pride, a Casby trait by all means. He never wanted to be a burden to anyone. He hid his pain from everyone that loved him.
He was a loving man that enjoyed being with this children Jerome & Linda Casby and his grandchildren, Jerome Russell, Kenneth, Travis, Rodney & Wilfred Casby.
Richard fought a good fight, ran a good race and finished the course on March 21, 2025. He's walking the streets that are paved in gold. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Zelma. His four brothers Raymond, James, Curtis and Harry.
He is survived by his brother Willis Casby Jr., his daughter Linda Casby Robinson (Kenneth Robinson), his son Jerome Casby (Lynell), Ethal Prim Casby, Lorraine Gilbert Grandsons, Kenneth (Tammera) Travis (Paula) Rodney (Jazlynn), & Wilfred Casby (Faith). Nephews, Phillips & Harry Jr.. Nieces, Latony Smith, Sister-in-Law, Wanda Casby, Devoted and Long-time friends 8-Ball, Miss Earline Shields, Donna Jones, Bernardine, Hilda, Pete & Nancy Richardson. Also survived by his great grandchildren, Trayana, Travell, Natirya, Rodney Jr (FatBoy), Willow, Isaish, Nola, Jaymia, Sanaya, Zioney, Akaycia, Wynter, & Aeris Bell Casby and a host of other relatives & friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at First Free Mission Baptist Church located at 426 Lamarque Street New Orleans, La 70114. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m., and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Derrick Edmond officiating and interment will follow at St. Mark Baptist Church Cemetery 3550 Wall Blvd, New Orleans, La.
