Pernell Simmons

Pernell Simmons, Sr. was born on March 19, 1954, to the late Joseph Simmons and the late Hilda Simmons in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the fourth of twelve children. God called Pernell to his eternal resting place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He peacefully departed this life surrounded by his family and loved ones at his home in Westwego LA.
Pernell accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and was baptized at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Avondale, LA by the late Rev. William Robinson. He has been a member of Little Zion for many years and was currently under the leadership of Pastor Damian J. Brown.

Pernell was employed by Jefferson Parish Water Works for many years. He was then employed by the Grain Elevator Company as a crane operator until his retirement.
Pernell leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife of fifty-two years, Glenda Simmons; one son, Pernell (Andrea) Simmons, Jr.; siblings, Velma Lee (Walter) Whittington, Isabella (Herbert) Jones, Ordelia (Robert) Thomas, Hilda Mae Simmons-Jones (Darnel); brother-in-law, Edward Harris; godchildren, Norma Jean Simmons and Valerie Birden; two devoted friends, Ananias Birden and Shirley Lewis, one aunt, Patricia Brook, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hilda Simmons; one granddaughter, Sairyona Cain; siblings, Emily Simmons, Olivia Simmons, Sadie Mae Hill Russell, Joyce Simms, Freddie Birden, Norman Simmons and Charles Simmons; sisters-in-law, Vanessa and JoAnn Harris; and brothers-in-law, Willie Charles Harris and Anthony Harris.

Relatives and friends of the family, officers and members of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church/Pastor Damian J. Brown, located at 433 Avondale Garden Rd., Avondale, LA 70094. The viewing will begin at 8:30a.m., the service will begin at 10:00a.m., Pastor Damian J. Brown, Officiating. The interment will follow at Restlawn Park Cemetery, 3540 US-90, Avondale, LA.
