Penelope "Penny" Jones

Penelope “Penny” Jones went to her eternal rest on November 25, 2025.  She was 73.  Penny was born to the late Robert and Ruth Brooks Jones on October 6, 1952.  Penny was the granddaughter of the late Alfred and Mable King Brooks. She is preceded in death by Aunts/Uncles and Brother, Jacqueline Brooks, Patsy Brooks, Audrey and Ernest Prout, Josephine and George Brooks, Ada Brooks, Alfred and Irene Brooks, Marguerite Brooks, and Robert Jones, Jr. She graduated from Scottville High School and later attended Southern University of New Orleans, where she majored in accounting. Penny worked for Brown & Ruth in Belle Chasse for a number of years, followed by the New Orleans Sewer and Water Board, and stayed at The Louisiana Weekly for 20+ years until her death. 

Penny was survived by her son, Richard A. Jones Sr. (Bridgett), three grandchildren, Devan, Richard Jr., and James (Dupree), and one great-granddaughter, Karria Joshua. She leaves behind one Sister, Rosalin A. (Robert) Johnson, one Brother, Phillip (Natalie), two aunts, Catherine (Dave) Butler, Juanita F. Brooks, three uncles, Clifford, Clinton, and Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Brooks.  Her beloved nieces Jacqueline Jones, Jennifer Jones, and Gabrielle Jones. Her beloved nephews, Derrick Jones, Aaron (Christi) Jones, and Joseph Delay. Godchildren Sheila LeBlanc and Cedra Brooks Sylve. She is also survived by a host of nieces (great-nieces), nephews (great-nephews), relatives, and friends.

Relatives and friends of the family as well as pastors, officers, and members of all area churches are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church located at 14747 LA-23, Naomi   LA. 70037.  The visitation will begin at 8AM followed by a 10AM service.  Dr. Joseph Brooks will officiate, and entombment will follow in Bahyi Cemetery 15187 Hwy, 23 in Rushville LA.
