Paula Joann Martin Jones

Paula JoAnn Martin Jones was born on May 7, 1951, to Rev Robert P Martin Sr. and Eunice Crawford Martin. She was affectionately known as Frizz. Paula transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 10, 2025. She was a lifelong proud resident of Algiers La.  She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age. She was baptized at Algiers Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Rev. Prince Kaywood Sr.

She was educated through the Orleans Parish Public School system. Paula was a proud graduate of the L. B. Landry (Buccaneers) class of 1969. She furthered her education at Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO), where she earned her certification as a Paraprofessional. Her passion for helping all children, allowed her to dedicate 20 years in the Orleans Parish School system teaching special needs children and 10 years teaching Pre-K. Her students bought her an abundant amount of joy. After retiring from Orleans Parish Schools, to fulfill her passion of helping children, she worked for the Associated Catholic Charities Grandparents Program. Her students adored her so much, they affectionately called her "MAW MAW JONES".


Paula was the proud mother of one daughter, Jacinta R Jones-Hagan (Martin Sr.). She was the loving grandmother of -Destiny M. Hagan, Martin Hagan Jr., Marquan J. Hagan and Marquelle J Hagan. She was the adoring great grandmother of six. Paula was also the godmother of Broderick LaMothe.  Paula had an exuberant and vibrant energy that everyone gravitated to. She never met a stranger. She would talk to anyone anywhere at any time. She was passionate and very involved in her grandchildren schooling and extracurricular activities. Her personality allowed her to establish and sustain lifelong friendships with Joyce Haynes-Jones, Sharon James, Debra Reddix and the late Rosella Ross Brown.
Paula memories will be cherished by her daughter-Jacinta J. (Martin) Hagan, father-Rev Robert P. Martin Sr., brothers Dave Hunter Sr., Joseph(Deborah) Hunter, Dr. Robert (Kathleen) Martin Jr., of Grand Rapids MI. Donald Martin Sr. and Howard P. Martin, sisters, Brenetta M (Joseph Sr.) Cheneau, of Arcadia LA., Regina M (George) Mullen, of Artesia NM, and surrogate sister Claudette Tull. Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, great nephews, nieces, great nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Eunice Crawford Martin, sister-Marie C. Nevil and niece- Catrina C. Tanner.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at St. Joseph Baptist Church located at 1100 Odeon St., New Orleans LA. 70114. The visitation will begin at 8:30AM followed by a 10AM service. Rev. David Perry and Rev. Hanson Broussard will officiate.
