Mildred P. Birden departed this life peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at her home in Avondale LA., surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years old and a native of Convent, LA.
Daughter of the late Andrew Powell and Helen Powell Collins. Devoted wife of the late Joseph Birden Sr. Beloved mother of Joseph Birden Jr., Helen Birden Lavance, Richard Boetticher Birden (Lottie), Donna Rose, Terry, Nathan, Deidra, and Carolyn Williams, and the late Lee Andrew Birden (Debra), Sadie Rousselle, Gwen, Albert Sr., and Henry Simmons. Sister of Issac Collins III, and the late Irma Brown, Joseph, Andrew Jr., and Geraldine Powell, Lorraine Singleton and Nelson Ellis. Mrs. Birden is also survived by 40 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Birden was a longtime member of the Second St. John Baptist Church of Avondale where she served faithfully as president of the Deaconess Board. She retired from LW Higgins High School after many dedicated years of working as a Food Service Technician, where she was affectionately referred to as "Ms. Millie"
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Second St. John Baptist Church 242 Avondale Garden Rd, Avondale LA. 70094. The visitation will begin at 8AM followed by a 10AM service. Pastor Damien Brown will officiate and entombment will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Ama LA.
