Michelle Marie (Brue) Burl

Michelle Marie Brue Burl, age 65, passed away at University Medical Center in New Orleans, LA on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at 1:30 am with her loving and devoted husband by her side.

Michelle was born June 7, 1958, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA to the late Lawrence W. Brue and the late Vera Marshall Brue. She was an only child, but she had many close friends whom they affectionately referred to each other as "my sister." Michelle accepted Jesus Christ at the age of seven and was baptized by the late Rev. E.S. Terry at Central Missionary BC in New Orleans, LA. There she was an active youth in the Sunday School and the Youth Department.

Michelle was a product of the New Orleans Public School System where she graduated from Joseph S. Clark High School in 1976. Upon graduation, she received an Associate's Degree in computer processing and she worked as a data processor for Schlumberger, but her passion was always working with children. As a result, she decided to further her education. She received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Social Work, from Southern University of New Orleans. She has worked in varies capacities in the field of social work, always trying to help others. In 2015, she retired as a social worker from the Jefferson Parish School System as an Early Intervention Child Specialist. Working with children has always been her passion.

As a young adult, Michelle joined Fellowship MBC where she served as a faithful active member until her husband was called to Pastor the First Mt. Zion BC in Empire, LA. As the First Lady of First Mt. Zion, she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director, and Vacation Bible School Director. She was affiliated with the Christian Ministers Missionary Baptist Association where she served as the Vice President of the Ministers Wives and Widows Department. She was also affiliated with the Cornerstone Missionary Baptist General Association in the Ministers Wives and Widows Department.

On May 4, 1985, Michelle married the love of her life, Reginald Howard Burl. They were married for 38 years. To this union, three children were born: Reginald Jr, Krischel, and Chelsey. As a mother, she always made them feel loved and special.
Michelle had a heart of gold with a smile and personality to match it. She was a strong Women of God who dedicated her life to serving Jesus Christ. The life she lived was exemplary of her faith. Michelle touched so many lives and she will be truly missed.

Michelle was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence W. Brue, and Vera Marshall Brue along with her daughter, Krischel (Krissy) Burl. Left to treasure her precious memories are her loving and devoted husband and Pastor Reginald H. Burl Sr.; two children Reginald H. Burl Jr. (Timedra) of Marietta, GA, Chelsey M. Burl of Atlanta, GA and one grandchild, Khloe K. Burl; "my sisters" who were her dedicated and devoted friends; the First Mt. Zion and Fellowship church family; along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Christian Ministers Missionary Baptist General Association of Plaquemines Parish, and Cornerstone Missionary Baptist General Association, as well as neighboring associations, are all invited to attend the celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church located at 2805 General Taylor Street, New Orleans, LA 70115. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., ONLY. Pastor Moses S. Gordon II, officiating, and entombment will follow at Lakelawn Cemetery in Metairie, LA.
The family will also receive guest for a Visitation on Friday, August 18, 2023, at First Mount Zion Baptist Church, 32741 LA - 23, Empire, LA 70050, from 6 p.m., until 9 p.m.
