Obituary

MSgt (Ret) Michael Bartholomew was born on January 7, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Olivia and Herbert Bartholomew Jr. He departed this life on July 16, 2023.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah, his children Darren Bartholomew Sr. (Tremica), Suzanne Tierney Carter (Glenn Sr.), Marla Scott (Allen Jr.), Michelle Riggins (Bryan), and brother, Herbert Bartholomew III. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Darren Bartholomew Jr., Glenn Carter Jr., Darion Bartholomew, Ryann Bartholomew, Tre'Shonya Howard, Steffone Howard (Briarra), Z'aire Howard, Ainsley Scott, and Aubrey Scott. Also mourning his passing are four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Benjamin, Doris, Glynn, Dwight, Ralph, and his grandson Adrian. Also mourning his loss are his Godchildren, Michael Simmons, Pam Johnson, Shamere DeMolle, and David Franks. His presence will be missed by brothers-in-law; Leonard, Danny, Allen Sr., Villere III, Orbon Sr., and sisters-in-law Sophie, Sharon, Julie, Devonya, and Jimmienell. Michael had several devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.

Michael enlisted in the United States Army in 1967 and retired in 1991 as a Master Sergeant. Michael went on to work at the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office and the 25th Judicial District Court, where he worked until his retirement in 2011. Michael and his family traveled the world but decided to call Pointe-ala-Hache, Louisiana home after his retirement in 1991. Michael was a proud member of the Paul Narcisse American Legion Post #430 where he was the very first Post Commander. He was also a long-time member of Bethlehem Lodge 237 of the Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons. Michael enjoyed spending time with friends, watching CNN, bowling, golfing, fishing, and watching his favorite team, the New Orleans Saints. He also enjoyed listening to his favorite artist Al Green.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 11 am at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, located at 17605 Highway 15, Pointe-ala-Hache, LA 70082. The visitation will begin at 9am followed by ceremonies from The American Legion and Prince Hall Masons. Father Sampson Abduli officiating and entombment with miliary honors will follow at St. Thomas Catholic Church Cemetery.
