Maudra Alexander "BIG M" Obituary

Maudra Mae “Big M” Alexander entered eternal rest on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La.  She was 85 years old and was born on August 18, 1935, in Modeste, Louisiana, to Beatrice Bowman and Johnny Gray and was one of nine siblings.

On April 11, 1970, she married the late great Edmond Alexander. They raised one son Malcolm, two daughters; Wendy, and Ann, and six grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and longtime resident of Avondale, La. She accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Avondale, La.

Maudra was the matriarch of the Alexander family. She was an amazing homemaker who loved to cook and bake. She was known for making her famous homemade bread and coffee. She enjoyed playing cards, going to BINGO, and going to her all-time favorite place Boomtown Casino. Maudra was known by the nickname “Big M” and was loved dearly by many.

She leaves to cherish her memory and continue legacy three loving children; Malcolm (Brenda) Alexander, Wendy Alexander, and Ann (Ronald) Lewis, 13 grandchildren; Malcolm (Charlean) Stewart Sr., Neyomie Alexander, Joseph Alexander, Jessica Alexander, Amber Alexander, Patrick Alexander, Terry Richburg, Ja’Shion Shantice Maudra Alexander, Elijah Alexander Sr., Tyler Alexander, Gabrielle Millet, Walnika Pinion, and Da’Kevis Pinion, 17 great-grandchildren, two brothers; James Melancon Sr. and George Bowman, one sister; Doris Melancon, one sister-in-law and best friend Elizabeth Melancon, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, godchildren, and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Edmond Alexander, parents; Beatrice Bowman and Johnny Gray, step-father George Melancon, sisters; Geraldine Hamilton, Hilda Mae Nicholas, and Ruby Mae Campbell, brothers; Gerald Bowman and Michael Melancon, great-grandchild Kaidence Alexander, niece Patrica Nicholas-Carter, and nephews Emile Payne, Earl Nicholas, and James Campbell.  Also left to cherish her memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life services on Friday, February 19, 2021, at Robinson Family Funeral Home 9611 LA – 23, Belle Chasse, LA 70037 at 11 a.m.  The limited visitation will begin at 10 a.m.  Pastor Damien Brown of Little Zion Baptist Church of Avondale officiating, and interment will follow at Evening Star Cemetery in Harvey, La. 

Due to COVID – 19, EVERYONE in attndnace MUST wear a facemask or other proper facial covering and practice social distancing.
