Captain Matthew J. Vodopija Jr. 68, lifelong resident of Buras, La. left this life on November 26th. Beloved Husband of the late Blanche Franicevich Vodopija.
Brother of Catherine Vodopija, Ben Vodopija (Tania), Valerie Taylor (Timmy), Jerry Vodopija (Mikell), Stepson of Kitty Vodopija.
Brother-in-law to Louis Franicevich, Trechel Ramagos (Marshal) Marisha Smith (Jared) and Monette Marange (Douglas).
Preceded in death by his parents Matthew J. Vodopija Sr. and Jeanette A. Nicks.
Matt was a respected and well skilled Tugboat Captain for over 40 years employed by Madere & Sons, Bonvillion Towing, Johnny Graham & many, many more.
His hobbies were music, watching old classics and loved telling his jokes.
He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and two grandchildren.
Sincere thank you to Christina Netter (our Hospice Nurse) and Alexis Cheramie (CMA) for the wonderful and kind care given to Matt.
Celebration of Life will be held on December 6th, at 2:00 pm at Trinity Christian Community Church located at 36674 Hwy. 11 Buras, La. Followed by a community gathering in the back to share a Meal.
Interment will be privately held on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Westlawn Cemetery located at 1225 Whitney, Avenue Gretna, LA 70056.
