Matthew "Johnny" Griffin Jr.

MATTHEW “JOHNNY” GRIFFIN JR., departed this life peacefully on Sunday June 6, 2021 at his home in Braithwaite LA.  He was 100 years old and was a decorated WWII Army Veteran.  Mr. Griffin was born in Davant LA. to the union of the late Isabella Etienne Griffin and Matthew Griffin Sr. 

He is the husband of the late Hazel Ben Griffin.  Beloved father of Elveria Evans.  Grandfather of Cassandra (Ryan) Reddick.  Great grandfather of Ryan Charles and Kaleb Reddick.  Brother of Gloria (Edwin) Riley and Andrew “Kermit” Griffin.  Mr. Griffin is also survived by nine foster children, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends. 

He was predeceased by his parents, eight siblings and their spouses and one sister-in-law.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation and masonic ceremony on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church located at 7047 Highway 39 Bertrandville LA. 70040 from 3P.M. until 7P.M.  The funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday June 10, 2021 beginning at 11A.M.  The visitation on Thursday morning will begin at 9A.M.  Pastor John Dwight Riley Jr. will officiate and entombment will follow in Bertrandville Cemetery on Bertrandville Road in Braithwaite.

Due to COVID-19, everyone in attendance is ask to wear a facemask or other proper facial covering and practice social distancing.
