Mary Myers Jones Obituary

Mary Ann Myers Jones was born April 9, 1941, in Pineville, Louisiana. She was affectionately called Mary Ann and as the seventh child born to John Henry Myers and Vidalia Johnson Myers. Mary departed this life on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Tulane Hospital in New Orleans LA.

Mary’s father died when she was only two weeks old, and her family remained in the Rapides Parish area for a year before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Zion Baptist Church by Reverend Fisher. Later as a teenager, her family moved to the Upper Ninth Ward, where she joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, pastored by her father’s brother, the late Reverend Alijah Myers. She also joined Franklin Baptist Church on May 17, 1992, pastored by Pastor Fred Luter, Jr.

 As a child, Mary had many admirable traits. She sang in her church choir as a lead singer and in her school choir as a powerful soprano. Mary was educated in Orleans Parish School System at Booker T. Washington High School. After graduating from high school, Mary attended Straight Business College. She was very skilled in receptionist tasks and proficient in clerical and communication. She worked for many years for Desire Community Center as a social worker.

Mary was also a great athlete. She played on the girls’ softball team at Sampson Park and was a part of the track team in her school.

Mary was united in holy matrimony to Robert Louis Rovaris, Jr. from that union; four children were born; Donna R. Thomas, Robert Louis Rovaris, II, Deborah R. Honeycutt, and Antonio Rovaris.

Mary was later united in holy matrimony to Clarence Jones Sr., and from this union, one child was born, Tiffany J. Bush.

She was preceded in death by her parents John H. Meyers Sr., and Vidalia Johnson; stepfather, A C Johnson, husband Clarence Jones Sr, one son, Robert L Rovaris III, one daughter Tiffany J. Bush, one grandson Tracey Rovaris, two sisters, Alverda M. Hill, and Annie M. Lightfoot, four brothers John H. Myers Sr, Fred Myers, Manuel Myers, and Alzida Myers.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Donna R. Thomas (Clayton), and Deborah R. Honeycutt (Harold) of Eunice, LA., two sons, Albert Gregory Christopher Wilson, and Antonio Rovaris, one sister, Joyce Franklin, another son in law, Ryan Bush (husband of her late daughter Tiffany), twelve grandchildren, and twenty-one grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and devoted friends.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life services on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022, at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church located at 8282 I – 10 Service Road, New Orleans, LA 70126. The visitation will begin at 9A.M. and the service will begin at 10A.M. Pastor Pastor Fred Luter Jr. officiating and interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery 4000 Norman Mayer, Ave.

Due to COVID – 19, EVERYONE MUST wear a facemask or other proper facial covering and practice social distancing.
