Marion Mayfield Black peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on March 31, 2026. She born to the union of Charles Mayfield Sr. and Burtina Garrrison Mayfield in Oakville Louisiana.
Marion was baptized at early age at St Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Oakville, Louisiana. In the early 1970's Marion transferred her membership to Our lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. Where she served as a member of the Choir and Alter Society.
On July 31, 1954, Marion Married the love of her life Arthur Phillip Black Sr. From this union five children were born. Andrey Pauline Joseph Burrle, Arthur Phillip Black Jr, Haskel Black (Debra), Cathy (Louis)David and Pamela Marie Black.
Marion lived life to the fullest, she loved caring for her children, grandchildren nieces, nephews along with all of their friends, her home was the safe house for all the children. She returned to school in her late 50's to receive her GED from thePlaquemines Parish School System and upon graduation she was honored with The Marion Black Day in Plaquemines Parish. She then works as a custodian for Belle Chasse Primary School. She was a member of the Sensational Seniors at Fresh Breath of Life Community Center.
She leaves to mourn her children. Andrey Pauline Joseph Burrle, Arthur Phillip Black Jr, Haskel Black (Debra), Cathy (Louis)David and Pamela Marie Black, Grandchildren; Michael Joseph, Trekina (Angel) Chavez, Courtney Greay, Hashana (Dwight) Harris, Tysheena B. Merrick, Haskel Jr, Lashanona and Emmitt Burrle III, Terez David, 34 great grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters; Dora Ann Wallace and Elaine Mayfield, 1 brother-in-Law; Sidney Black, two sisters in law; Mary Black and Gloria Mayfield, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur P Black Sr, her parents; Charles and Burtina Garrison Mayfield, parents in law; Zachariah and Irma Sanders Black, siblings; Lawrence (Anne), Charles, Delton, Glenn, Perry, Ada Belle, Thais, Lydia, Paulette, and Valerie Mayfield, Ida Taplett and Jeanette (Hayward) Williams, grandchildren; Jeaneene Williams, Louis David III, great grandchild; Jazariah Harris, sister in law Rebecca Wilson and brother-in-law Nolan Wilson.
A special thanks to Megan Lagrange, Jaliyah Merrick, her Passages Hospice caretakers Lynette, Lashandra, and Shannon for exceptional and dedicated care.
Family, friends and members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, St Peter Missionary Baptist Church, Oakville Missionary Baptist Church, Greater Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, and neighboring churches, Ochsner Medical Center and Passages Hospice are invited to attend the funeral services On Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 8968 LA-23, Belle Chasse LA. The visitation will begin at 9AM followed by an 11AM mass. Father Kyle Dave will officiate, and entombment will follow in Bahyi Cemetery in Jesuit Bend LA.
