Mrs. Lorraine Duplessis Sullen departed this life on Wednesday November 5, 2025, at Ochsner Hospital Westbank. She was born on July 7, 1940, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Fannie Thelma Williams and Jeanerette Duplessis. She grew up in the McDonoghville area of Gretna, Louisiana, where she developed a lifelong love for faith, family, and fellowship.
At the tender age of 14, Lorraine accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized by the late Reverend Paul Payne at St. Paul Baptist Church, where she remained a devoted and faithful member throughout her life. During her early years at St. Paul, she sang joyfully in the Junior Choir and was a dedicated member of the Sunday School.
Lorraine was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, the late Warren Charles Sullen, Sr. Their marriage was a beautiful example of love, faith, and partnership. Together, they were blessed with four sons: Warren Charles Sullen, Jr. (Joslyn), Don R. Sullen, Darryl Lee Sullen (late), and Cornell Herbert Sullen. Lorraine and Warren shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2003. Lorraine was preceded in death by her 4 siblings, Thelma Caston, Wilton Williams Sr., Neola Riggins, and Rosemary Calhoun.
Lorraine's passion to her church and community became stronger with time. Her pastor, Orin D. Grant Sr., appointed her as a deaconess at St. Paul Baptist Church, and she faithfully served for many years. She also worked as the treasurer for the St. Paul Beautification Committee and a member of the Mt. Sinai Beautification Committee. Additionally, she worked tirelessly in the church kitchen, always ready to serve others with a friendly smile and a caring heart. Lorraine also volunteered at the Gretna Community Center, extending her spirit of service beyond the church doors.
Lorraine's culinary talents were well known and loved by many. She especially enjoyed cooking for family, friends, and church gatherings. Her crawfish bisque was her signature dish and a favorite among all who tasted it.
She was a hardworking and dedicated woman. Lorraine was employed at Andy's Sandwich Shop for 5 years, Benny's Seafood for 18 years, and later retired after 13 years of service with the Jefferson Parish School Board Cafeteria.
Lorraine was also a proud and faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 60, having joined in 1970 and remained active until her passing. Her years of service and commitment reflected her love for fellowship, charity, and sisterhood.
Lorraine was blessed with six cherished grandchildren: Tyressee, Warren III, Jeremy, Jermaine, Cody, and Danielle. She was also the proud great-grandmother of fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her devoted friends Marilyn Sullen, Angel Brooks, and Melva Bartholomew.
She was grateful to her helpful neighbors, Michael and Cynthia Grows, for their consistent support and kindness.
She was also blessed to have a devoted church family. Edward and Myrtle Conerly, and many others who lovingly and continually performed acts that exemplify compassion, true friendship, and fellowship.
Lorraine will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her giving heart, her passion for cooking, and her life of service to God and others. Lorraine's legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday November 15, 2025 at St Paul Baptist Church located at 1509 Monroe St. Gretna LA. The visitation will begin at 9AM followed by a 10AM service. Interment will follow in Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale.
