Lola Johnson Obituary

Dr. Lola Mae Augustine Cavalier Johnson started the journey of her earthly life on August 10, 1945 in Greenwood, LA. She was the fourth of eleven children born to the union of the late Andrew Cavalier, Sr. and Caroline Hargrove Cavalier. On May 15, 2023, the trumpet sounded and the Lord said to His faithful servant, "Well done my child, come on home, your work is done" enter into this Kingdom and rest. Lola was 77 years young.


Early on, Lola was baptized at New Canaan Baptist Church in Greenwood, LA.
She attended early school in West Feliciana Parish and was a proud graduate of John S. Dawson High Class of 1963. As a young adult, Lola relocated to New Orleans and on February 29, 1964 she married the love of her life, Samuel Johnson. To this union four (4) children were born: Fitzgerald, Roschell, Zina, and Adonijah.


As a faithful member, Lola served as a Deaconess at Greater St. John MBC, Central MBC, and most recently, Little Zion MBC. Lola was a trusting administrator of her God-given gifts and talents, habitually working; earnestly with energy and commitment at home, at church, and in the community.


Later in life, while working at Deansgate Sewing Factor in the day, Lola attended Katie's Beauty School at night. Upon successful completion of studies, Lola received her Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology license. She started her cosmetology career at Magee's Beauty Salon and in 1978, Lola stepped into entrepreneurship and opened Lola's Beauty Salon. She continued her education at the National Beauty Culturist League, earning her B.A., M.A., & Ph.D. in Cosmetology. During her career, Lola served as the Historian for the LA State Beauticians & Barber for over 25 years, Hodegos of Theta Nu Sigma National Sorority, member of Local #1 Beauticians League - formerly serving as President for over 10 years & Treasurer for over 20 years.


Lola leaves to cherish her memories, two (2) sons, Fitzerald (Dawn) and Adonijah Johnson; five (6) grandchildren, Rouchell Johnson (Jazlin), Joshua Cobbins (Demetria), Bria, Adonijah Jr., Tristian, & Amaj Johnson; six (6) great-grandchildren, Rouchell Jr., Ryly, Azariya, London, Joshua Jr., & Justice; four (4) God-children, Chiquita Richardson, Lacey James, Joseph Lampton, and Kirsten Adams; seven (7) sisters, Willie Mae Brown, Rosetta Ruth, Annette Mackie-Keith (Burnett), Delores Cavalier, Joel Cavalier (Curtis), Doris Cavalier Richardson (Willie), Janice Cavalier Smith (Henry); brother, Jeffery Cavalier (Erica); three (3) sisters-in-law, Odisteen J. Hargrove, Mary Johnson & Barbara Cavalier; two (2) brothers-in-law, Herbert, and Wilbert (Barbara) Johnson; honorary Godchild, Jackie Charles Clark. She is also survived by a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her children, Roschell & Zina Johnson; brothers, Andrew Jr., Edward James, & Primas Frank Cavalier; sister, Evelyn Cavalier & daughter-in-law, Denise Nero Johnson.


Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday May 20, 2023 at the Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church located at 4821 Earhart Blvd, New Orleans LA. 70125. The visitation will begin at 9AM followed by a 10AM service. Pastor Walter Hardy Jr. will officiate and entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery 4000 Norman Mayer Ave. New Orleans LA.
