Lillie Shelby Obituary
Lillie Mae P. Shelby departed this life on April 26, 2023, at her home in Harvey, LA. She was born on July 18, 1939, to the union of the late Willard Pierce and Katie Carter (Joe Lewis) in Bayou Gansla, LA.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Second St. John Baptist Church in Avondale, Louisiana. She continued her Christian journey to the present at New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Warren Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Antionette Shelby, Acquanitta M. Shelby, son, Huegh M. Shelby (Cynthia), Herman Shelby (Cemetria), Katie Taylor (Patrick), and Loretta Maxwell (John). Sisters, Beverly P. Gilbert, Ida B. Pierce, and Willeaner C. Pierce and Elvera R. Shannon.
She is preceded her in death by her mother Katie Carter and stepfather Joe Lewis, father Willard Pierce, stepmother Lillie Mae Pierce, her children Billie Mae Shelby and Kevin Shelby, brothers, Roosevelt S. Pierce, Abraham Willard Pierce, and Willard Pierce Jr., brother-in-law Emmett C. Gilbert, Sr., nephew Emmett C. Gilbert, Jr., and her Aunt Annie Bell Kennedy.
Also left to cherish her memories are 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, a host of nieces & nephews, cousins, other relatives, and devoted friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at New Hope Baptist Church located at 434 7th Street, Gretna, LA 70053. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m., and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Warren Johnson officiating, and interment will be private. The family also invites everyone to share with them at the repast at O.J. Dunn Hall 1100 Cook St., Gretna, LA 70053.
Due to Covid - 19, facemasks are encouraged.
