Leonard Addison Obituary

Leonard "Yalk" Leaster Addison, age 68, transitioned peacefully at West Jefferson Hospital on July 5, 2025, at approximately 1:08 a.m., surrounded by love and comfort, with his daughter, Shovan Simone Addison, by his side. In the days leading up to his passing, Leonard was embraced by the presence and affection of family and friends. The family firmly believes that if love alone could have kept him here, he would have stayed with us forever.
Leonard, affectionately known as "Yalk," was born with a deep sense of responsibility and prioritized being a provider for his family from a young age. This commitment led him to leave West Jefferson High School early to work, yet he proudly fulfilled a personal goal by earning his GED as a young adult.
Known for his outgoing spirit, Leonard had a vibrant personality and a smile-one he credited to his late mother-that could light up any room. On August 11, 1979, he was united in marriage with Charlene Simmons Addison. From this union, two children were born: Shovan Simone Addison and Devin Leonard Addison Sr. Leonard also held Alex Mac Allen and Candance England close to his heart.
Throughout his life, Leonard wore many hats, he was a father, brother, uncle, and friend to many. A true jack of many trades and master of a few. Leonard was especially known for his work as a scrap metal merchant and auto mechanic. He always had a pickup or commercial truck, often filled with scrap metal headed for the local recycling yard.
Leonard had a deep love for cooking and feeding his loved ones though he might have loved bragging about his cooking even more than cooking itself. A lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he chose them as his favorite team in boyhood and remained loyal throughout his life.
He leaves to cherish his memory two children Shovan Simone Addison and Devin Leonard Addison Sr., one grandchild Mylah Grace Addison, longtime companion Avona Dorsey, three brothers Leo Addison (Crystal), Frederick Addison Sr. (Barbara), James Addison Jr., three sisters Luvenia Addison Lewis, Everhelina Addison Dickerson (Willie), Willette Addison McDonald (Harold) and a host of nieces and nephews. Five Godchildren Aileen Lewis, Tori White, Andre Addison, Travon Haywood, and Terrance Carruth Jr.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, James Addison Sr. and Octavia Lee Firven Addison, two grandkids Mya Michelle Addison, Devin Leonard Addison Jr., eldest sister Dorothy Pearl Addison Harper, Six aunts Hazel Davis Birden, Lou Ethel Addison Morgan, Edna Addison Spears, Willie Mae Addison Wallace, Christine Addison White George, Deloris Firven Gabriel, five uncles George Davis Sr., Lester Addison, Curtis Addison, Freddie Firven Jr., Isaiah Matthew Firven Sr., three nephews Leon Addison, Marc Anthony Addison, and Bobby Addison.
Leonard "Yalk" Addison lived a life full of hard work, laughter, family, and love. His legacy of strength, humor, and generosity will live on through all who knew and loved him.
