Larry Common Sr., better known as "Doby", entered into the joy of eternal life on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the age of 75. He was surrounded by love up to his final moments. Born October 23, 1948 to the late Clarence and Olivia F. Common, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, sister Jackie Common, son Larry Common Jr., four brothers-in-law: Michael Lewis, William Lewis, Johnny Rae Henry, Oliver Lewis, and three sisters-in-law: Louise Pierce, Betsy Payton and Theresa Evans.
Larry was a graduate of West Jefferson High School in 1966 and was later drafted into the US Army on May 19, 1969. During his time in the Army, he served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971. He then returned home and began work as a welder at Avondale Shipyard. He met Olivia, better known as "Lee Lee", in 1973. They married on April 14, 1974 and started a family in 1975. He was employed by Chevron Chemical Plant in 1977. Welding was his passion and he later became Head Welder, leading his own working crew. His most loved hobbies included riding motorcycles, listening to music, hunting, fishing, traveling, building things and breeding pit bulls. He retired from Chevron in 2000, following his motor vehicle accident which left him a paraplegic. Though paralyzed he continued to do all the things he loved with the help and support of his loving wife. With God as the head of his life, he was still able to drive, fish, weld, build and even tried to hunt! His life was filled with love, laughter, church, sports, great food and sharing the Word of God daily.
Larry leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Olivia L. Common, of 49 years, 9 months and 2 days. His one and only princess Trenice C. (Johnie) Bridges, his prince Tracy Lee Common, and seven grandchildren: Taylor Larae' Thigpen, Evan Lake Joseph, Tracy Jr., Tre'yonne, Tylar, Angelina and Austin Common.
