LaWanda Theresa Pinkins Mackey departed this life on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at University Hospital in New Orleans, LA. She was 59 years old and a native of Plaquemines Parish and a long-time resident of Gretna, LA.
She is the wife of Karl Everett Mackey Sr., for the past 36 years. Mother of Monisha, Karl Jr., and Tamara. She was a loving, concerned, and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother of 6 grandchildren, Kayla, Cameron, Kay’lyn, Kaden, Keyser, and Kailani. She is the sister of Elwin Pinkins (Betty), Jason Pinkins (Wanda), Verna Robertson, and Lydia Smith. Sister-in-law of Janet Pinkins (late Felton). She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
LaWanda was a graduate of Buras High School, and dedicated her life to serve Jehovah God on July 7, 1973. She was employed with Orleans Parish School Board Transportation Department for more than 20 years. She later trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and for over 10 years she worked as a Home Health Caregiver.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Felton Sr., and Juanita Pinkins, brothers Felton Jr., and Delwin Pinkins Sr. Her niece, Yolanda Pinkins, and sister in laws, Sharon Ann Pinkins and Vanessa Mackey. Her brother in laws, Emile Robertson, Lynn Smith, Eric Williams, and her father-in-law Eric Mackey Sr.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a virtual memorial discourse for Lawanda which will be hosted by the English Gretna Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 2 p.m. The viewing will begin at 1:30 p.m., via ZOOM.
