Joseph Davis Obituary

Joseph Ronald Davis, 72, of Marrero, LA, was born in New Orleans, LA, on July 6, 1953, to the late Vonne Davis and the late Joseph Shargois. He was surrounded with intense love, being one of seven brothers and eight sisters. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend—known for his love of trucks, family, people, and good food. Joseph leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, service, and faith, learning early the importance of family, discipline, and hard work.

Joseph married Shirley Davis on April 27, 1980, and together they shared 45 years of marriage.

Professionally, Joseph was an entrepreneur at heart—building businesses, pursuing new opportunities, and inspiring others through his ambition and discipline. He was well respected throughout the community for his strong character and leadership. A true pillar in the community, Joseph was always willing to help those in need. He was a leader of men, teaching and developing skills that allowed many to build careers that supported their lives and families. His thriving trucking business served not only as his livelihood but also as a place where he mentored countless individuals, teaching many how to drive trucks and launch their own paths in the industry.
As a part of his entrepreneurial ventures, Joseph also drove school buses for a period of time, which afforded him the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students, coworkers, and community members—many of whom became like extended family to him.

Depending on the setting, those who knew him affectionately called him “Big Daddy,” “Poncho,” or “Westside Daddy.” Joseph was strong, resilient, and confident. Baptized at an early age, he was a follower of Jesus Christ who credited God for every blessing—often saying, “Man, God has blessed us too much for us to be worried about that foolishness.”
On November 14, 2025, our beloved Joseph Ronald Davis transitioned into eternal rest, entering the presence of the Lord whom he faithfully served.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; his children, Carlie (Loronzo), Kikoa (Thomas), Cedric (LaShawna), Terrell, and Eric; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Glenn (Darlene), Terry, Reginald (Lisa), Floyd (Marisa), Darryl (Pauline), Michael (Roslyn), and Ricardo; and his sisters, Darlene, Crystal, Patricia, and Debbie (Joseph). He is also survived by his brother-in-law James Jr. (Juanita) and his sister-in-law Joycelyn.

He is preceded in death by his sisters Diane, Alice, Glenrose, and Sandra, as well as his mother-in-law Juanita and father-in-law James. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, along with extended family who loved him dearly.
