Deacon Joseph Barthelemy

Deacon Joseph Barthelemy earned his wings and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 28, 2023 at his daughter's home in Port Sulphur LA., surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old. Deacon Barthelemy was a native of Point-Ala-Hache LA., and a longtime resident of Port Sulphur. He was baptized at the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church in 1986 and later joined the First Mount Zion Baptist Church where he served as Lead Deacon.

Son of the late Eugene and Irma Demolle Barthelemy. He was united in married to Doris Ann Edgerson in 1960 and enjoyed a wonderful marriage until she passed away in 2018. Beloved father of Shelia Sherman (Reginald), Varel Williams (Sherman), Bobby J. Barthelemy Sr. (Dorothea), Lanetta M. Barthelemy, and the late Melvin and Calvin Sherman. Brother of Ollie Thomas, Mercedes Guerin, Simon and Oliver Barthelemy, and the late Eugene Jr., Thomas, Chris and Irma Barthelemy, Alma Jones and Leona Narcisse. He is also the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Godfather of Joellen Raye, Celeste Giles and the late Dale Williams Sr., and Wesley Williamson. Best friend of Richard Barney Sr. and Davey Williamson. Devoted uncle of Keith and Bobby (Kimmy) Barthelemy. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends and church family.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at First Mount Zion Baptist Church located at 32471 LA-23, Empire LA. 70050.

The visitation will begin at 9A.M. followed by a 11A.M. service. Pastor Reginald H. Burl Sr., will officiate and interment will follow at Mt. Zion Memorial Park Cemetery.
