Joan Riggins Slaughter

JOAN RIGGINS SLAUGHTER departed this life on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Ochsner Hospital Main Campus. She was 71 years old and a native of New Orleans LA. and a longtime resident of Gretna LA.

Beloved daughter of the late Hilton Riggins Sr. and Florestine Riley.  Devoted mother of Tarika Slaughter Griffin (Arell Sr.) and Kevin Slaughter Jr.  Loving grandmother of Paul C. Snowden Jr., Kareem A. Stewart Jr., Kevin Slaughter III, Jayceon C. Griffin and Jaycon C. Griffin.  Step grandmother of Ashanti Griffin and Arell Q. Griffin Jr.  Sister of Hilton Riggins Jr., Shelena Martin, Vera Perrilliat (Roland), Keven Riggins, Wanda Riggins, Mack Ross (Theresa), and Kim Paul.  Godmother of Michelle Brown-McCoy, Adamma Berry-Carter, Walter Williams Jr., and Elbert Ford Jr.  Mrs. Slaughter is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and devoted friends.

Relatives and friends of the family and staff members of Algiers Charter Schools, Orleans Parish School Board and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Department are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday October 23, 2021, at Second Zion Baptist Church located at 6520 Second Zion Avenue, Marrero LA. 70072. The visitation will begin at 8A.M. followed by an 10A.M. funeral service. Pastor J. Nelson Brown will officiate, and entombment will follow in McDonoughville Cemetery located at 520 Hancock St. Gretna LA. 70053
