Mrs. Jewel Smith was born on April 6, 1936, in New Orleans, LA, to the union of the late George Griffin and Virginia Carey. Jewel accepted Christ at an early age. She was a longtime member of Saint Paul Spiritual Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Ruby Smith Bernard. Jewel was a dedicated Usher and Missionary.
Mrs. Jewel leaves to cherish her memory to her faithful, passionate and devoted caretakers. Her daughter Shelia Carey, and her son, Artee Jackson. She also leaves to cherish her memory to John (Helen), Lisa (Troy), Gwen Sanford, Gloria (Lawrence), and Don Smith. Her grandchildren, Joseph, Franklin, Arione, K-Rona, and Jelessa. Her great grandchildren, Kayla, Laci, Jersey, Dorian, Kaison, and Da'Myri. Also left to cherish her memory is her brother, Richard Jackson, nieces and nephews, Patricia, Larry, Andre, Sabrina, Richard Jr., Christopher, Reynard, Kevin, and Michael. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Smith, son, Gerald Carey, brothers Robert Jackson Jr,. Artie Jackson, sisters, Hazel Spillers, nephew Gregory Spillers and god son Rodney Preatto.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Saint Paul Spiritual Church located at 811 Pailet Street, Harvey, LA 70058. The visitation will begin at 8 a.m., and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Rev. David Gatlin of Houston, TX., officiating and interment will be private.
