James Melvin “Pete” Riley departed this life on Friday, March 12, 2021. He was 70 years old and a native and resident of Port Sulphur, La. He was born on November 9, 1950, to the late Rosemary Turner and James S. Riley.
He is the father of Sabrina LaFrance (Derrick), Tabitha Robinson (Robert), Renata Smith (Stanley), Cierra Smith (Willie), James Riley Thomas (Shonta), and the late Ashley Riley. He is the brother of Herbert Turner (Carol), Linda Williamson (late Vernon), Stephanie Riley (Melvin), Erna Riley (Victor Ingraham Sr), Anthony Riley (Paula), Donald Riley (Yolanda), Dr. Theodore Turner Jr. (Heneritta), Pastor Kenneth Parker Sr (Carolyn), Patricia and Douglas Riley, Trenice R. Gordon, Melvina Jones (David), Melva Green and Mondrall Walker. He was also the devoted friend of Anna Mae Thomas. He is also the godfather of Thomas Brown and Charlene Manning. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends.
Pete loved being around family and friends especially Melvin Riley III, who was his everything. He also loved being around the men of Homeplace. He enjoyed talking, laughing, and cooking for everyone. He also loved being at the Farmers’ Market.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, March 19, 2021, at Greater Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, located at 27954 LA – 23, Port Sulphur, LA 70083, at 11 a.m. The limited visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Pastor Allen Johnson officiating and interment will follow at Mt. Zion Memorial Park Cemetery in Empire, La.
