James, (JE), departed this life Wednesday April 12, 2023, at his home in Algiers, LA. He was born August 7, 1938, to the late Joseph Pierce and Jenna Sedonia Jones. He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Rhonda Simone Pierce, and Gelinda Marie Pierce Pope (husband Sharmel Pope), his sister Janet P. Casimier, 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his Sister-in-law Beverly Wheeler Pierce, Cousin Merlene Coon Pike, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. James was preceded in death by brothers Herman Pierce, Alton Pierce, John Pierce Sr., and Sister Marcel Peterson.
James was a native of Gretna, LA, and a lifelong resident of Algiers. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, and years later joined Greater St. Mary's Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James Nelson Brown. James was a graduate of L.B. Landry High School in Algiers, one of the first African American bus drivers for New Orleans RTA on the Westbank. He served as an Assistant Equipment Manager for the New Orleans Saints, a pipefitter for Conoco Oil Company, and a Consummate Campaign leader in local political campaigns. He was a sports lover and enjoyed volunteering for the Veteran's Administration. James will be greatly missed by his family and a long list of friends and associates.
Relatives and friends of the family also the Gretna Community Center where he served under the leadership of Dr. Clara Bias are invited to the celebration of life service which will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, at Robinson Family Funeral Home 9611 LA - 23, Belle Chasse, LA 70037. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m., and the service will begin at 10:00 a.m.
