James Henry "Butto" Carter departed this life on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Ochsner Hospital in Kenner, LA. He was born on October 26, 1949, in Woodville, MS, to the parents of Ethel Mae (Bea) Anderson and Jerry (Pat) Carter Sr. He was affectionately known as "Butto" by his family and friends.
He attended St. Mark Baptist Church in Woodville, MS under pastor Dupree, where he accepted Christ and was baptized. He also attended Wilkerson County Training School in Woodville while living with his grandparents Alex and Charity Anderson.
He later moved to Kenner, LA., to live with his parents. After moving, he learned several skills and began a career as a truck driver. He obtained his CDL in the State of Louisiana and worked as a truck driver and retired from Diamond E. Trucking at Bayou Steel in Laplace, La., after many years of service.
On April 29, 1978, he married Mary Ann Henyard Carter. They have been married for 47 years, 11 months, and ten days. On June 6, 2017, he joined Oakland Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Charles Hurst Sr. (VIP).
James is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Carter, Jerry Carter, brothers Jerry Carter Jr., and Willie Carter. Paternal grandparents, Fred and Stella Palmer Carter, Alex and Charity Anderson, other aunts, uncles, and devoted friends.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to the graveside service which will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery located at 11316 River Road, St. Rose, LA 70087. Services will begin at 1p.m. Pastor Charles Hurst of Oakland Baptist Church officiating.
