Hueston Miller Obituary

Obituary of Hueston Earl Miller

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Hueston was the ninth of 14 children born on January 16, 1950, to Stephen Sr. and Ruth Smith-Miller, who both predeceased him. Born and raised in the Utica & Carpenter, MS areas, Hueston had an awesome upbringing with his siblings and numerous friends throughout these communities. With his siblings there were so many conservations and the sharing of fond memories regarding those times. Hueston attended Ginnline School, where he was quite a scholar, but his favorite time was hitting the playground to shoot marbles. He was a master at it and after his winnings would be so proud as he showered his younger brothers and sister with snacks from the canteen. At a young age, Hueston rescued his three younger siblings and niece from a house fire by having them join hands as he led them to safety. Looking back, his caring and heroic acts were the beginning of a compassionate heart that was seen to manifest itself and bless so many throughout his lifetime.

Hueston was baptized at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church and accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at a young age. In his early adulthood, Hueston moved to Harvey, LA and fellowshipped under the leadership of Bishop Henry Johnson.

On January 15, 1972, Hueston married Jocelyn Packnett, were happily married for 52 years, and raised their three beautiful children: Michael, Angel and Louis.

Hueston worked at Intercostal Pipe Company in Harvey, LA for 20 years as a crane operator. In later years, he embraced his passion of working with his hands to become self-employed as a contractor, painter, and handyman.

During the afternoon of May 10, 2024, Hueston transitioned to his Heavenly home while under the care of The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in River Ridge, LA surrounded by his family. In addition to his parents, Hueston was predeceased by four brothers: Cleveland Miller, Louis Miller, Stephen Miller, Jr & Stephen Miller, Jr and his parents-in-law Samuel & Margaret Packnett.

Hueston leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving and devoted wife of 52 years Joycelyn Miller; children Michael Miller, Angel Miller and Louis Lenox of the Greater New Orleans (GNO) area; grandchildren Mia Miller (daughter of Michael) and Chelsey Miller (daughter of Angel); four brothers: Eugene Broome of Westmont, IL, Sterling Miller (Earlene) of the GNO area, Roger Miller (Cora) and Joseph Miller (Betty) of Utica, MS; seven sisters: Lucy Miller of Harvey, LA, Gracie Wilson of South Holland, IL, Emma (Albert) Brown, Juanita Miller, Doris (Robert) Kaigler, Josephine (Leroy) Bourgeois of the GNO area and Evelyn Rounds of San Bernardino, CA; three sisters-in-law: Ruth Miller of Hermanville, MS, Carolyn (Charles) Brown and Karen Lenox of the GNO area; one uncle: Donald Johnson of the GNO area; three aunts: Loretta Ware of Hueston, TX, Fannie Smith of Jackson, MS and Dianne Johnson of the GNO area; numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends. Hueston will be deeply missed.
