Herbert (Johnson) Martin, Sr.

Herbert Martin Sr. was born on May 25, 1933, in Centreville, Mississippi. He departed this life on January 17, 2025, at 1:24 p.m., at his home in Avondale, La. He is the son of the late Ollie Mae Palmer McDaniel and Woodrow Martin.
For the past 70 years he was married to Mildred Mary Martin and to their union Herbert Martin Jr., and the late Peggy Ann Martin Brock.
Brother of Christine Collins, Mount Clemens, MI, Ollie Mae Martin, Centreville, MS. Brother-in-law of Jeffrey Johnson (Vernell) Lafayette, LA, Paul Johnson, Los Angeles, CA, Ursula Alexander, Parks, LA, Theresa "Plum" Hogues (Herman Jr.), Lucy Chretien, Julie Collins (Leo) all of New Orleans, LA.
Grandfather of Herbert Simmons (Natalie) Harvey, LA, Edward Jacque (Breion) New Orleans, LA, Vondrice Jacque, Arthur Martin, Corey Martin, Darius Jordan all of New Orleans, LA. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren 6 great - great grandchildren, his loving and devoted niece Charlene Bland of Kenner, La., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and devoted friends.
He was preceding in death by his parents Woodrow Martin and Ollie Mae Palmer McDaniel his beloved daughter Peggy Ann Martin Brock, (3) sisters, (6) brothers, (1) sister-in-law, (3) brother-in-law, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at True Vine Baptist Church located at 249 Sala Avenue, Westwego, La 70094. The visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and the service will begin at 12 noon. Pastor Leander Johnson officiating and interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park Cemetery located at 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124.
