Grace Elizabeth (Johnson) Young

Grace Elizabeth Johnson Young "Momma", a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at the amazing age of 91. Born in New Orleans, she was a lifelong resident of Algiers and a devoted wife to the late Robert Young Sr. Together, they built a beautiful legacy with their eight children.

Grace was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Olivia Dennis Johnson, Leo and Virgie Johnson, grandmother, Albertine Offray (Mommie), Marion Marcelin (Nanny), auntie as well as her mother and father-in-law, Clarence (Buster) Sr. and Margaret Lesseppes Young. She is also reunited with her brothers and sisters-in-law Clarence Jr., Prime & Beatrice, Oliver Sr., Terry Sr., Ralph James Sr., Kitty Mae, Selina, Irene Young, cherished cousins Geraldine M. Bowie and Yvonne M. Jones, cousin-in-law Dorothy Lee Washington Jackson, and her beloved best friend Ethel Mae Johnson.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, forever held in the hearts of her children, Nanette Young Boatley (Merrell), Robert Jr. (Val), Wayne, Debra Jordan (Gregory), Byron Sr., (Annette), Keith (Samantha), Reginald, and Ronald Young.

She will be dearly missed by her brother Bruce White, brother-in-law Ellis Young (Christina), sisters-in-law Daisy Mae Young James, Mary, and Annie Mae Young, and cousin Joyce M. Washington. Her love and guidance will continue to shine through her 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her devoted caretaker Carla Thomas, godson Kenneth James Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Grace dedicated 30 years of service as a cafeteria manager at Murray Henderson Elementary School, under the Orleans Parish School Board. She was a proud alumna of Saint Mary's Academy and L.B. Landry High School. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted member of All Saints, St. Julian Eymard, and Holy Name of Mary Catholic Churches.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Celebration of life Service at Holy Name of Mary Church, 400 Verret St., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, February 15, 2025. The visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m, Words of Remembrance will begin at 10:30 a.m., and the funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m. Pastor John Talamo officiating and interment will follow at McDonoghville Cemetery in Gretna, La.
