"I have fought a good fight; I have kept the Faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Our beloved Gene Young was born on September 20, 1942, to John and Flora King Young. Gene was the second oldest son of seven children. He closed the door to this world and began his journey to the "other side" on Sunday November 26, 2023. He was 81 years young.
Gene was educated in the Jefferson Parish Public School System where he attended Frederick Douglas Elementary School and Lincoln High School. He was raised as a strong proud young man, and he was zealous about supporting his family. He worked for 21-1/2 years for the Continental Grain Elevator where he worked his way up to a supervisor. Gene was a License Contractor, and over the years worked for Evans Industries Inc. and various other contracting companies. He took great pride in his craft as he built, renovated, and repaired structures and homes throughout the country, including but not limited to the States of Louisiana and California. Gene was also known throughout his community both on the Westbank and East bank of Jefferson and Orleans Parishes for his expertise in carpentry. His co-workers, family and friends all loved and respected him for the hard-working man he was.
At an early age he was raised to love the Lord. He surrendered his heart to Christ in 1996 and was baptized by Pastor Louis Kelly at Greater Antioch Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. He served as a member until his death at The City of Love under the leadership of Bishop Lester Love and Prophetess Fran Love.
On September 3, 1979, Gene was united in holy matrimony to the Love of his life, Carolyn Gail Young. They were known to each other as his "Bubbly Brown Sugar" and her "Poppa Too Sweet". In that union was born Dawn Jeanne Young, the apple of his eye. His Love for his other children Laurin, Mark, Kerry, Dawn, and Angelo was unconditional and bigger than life. He took pride in supporting his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all their endeavors.
Gene, also affectionately known as "Popsicle, Sicle and Unc", was a soft-spoken and gentle Giant who was always well dressed from Hat to Shoes. He loved socializing and was a member of the Table One Social & Pleasure Club; his bowling teams: namely the 3 Knights Westbank Bowlers, It's Alright Bowlers and Allstar Bowlers. He didn't mind letting you know that he held an average of 200 . Some of his favorite past times were fishing, spending time with family and friends playing Dominos and Spade. If you were lucky enough to be his partner, you were guaranteed a WIN. He will be sorely missed by All who knew him.
To cherish his fond memories, he leaves his of wife of 45 years, Carolyn G. Young, children Laurin and Kerry (Lorenza) Lawless, grandchildren, Kerrilynn Zeno, Joy (Mark) Jones, Keirslynn and Milynn Lawless, and Ashlynn Jordan, great grandchildren, Derrnisha Polk, Ryan and Rylin Smith, Malanie and Miracle Jones, sister, Carol Cook, devoted nephew Mason (Renee) Hunter, Jr., devoted friends, William Taylor, Issac Turner, Percy Thomas and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other Relatives and friends.
