Gail Bass Obituary

Gail Ruffin Bass, a treasured mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on June 12, 1951, in Morgan City, Louisiana, to the late Roussell and Beulah Ruffin, Gail's life was marked by her deep love for her family, her faith in Jesus Christ, and her enduring strength. Gail's life was a testament to faith, kindness, and resilience. She had an unwavering relationship with Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age at Mt Zion Baptist Church. Later in life she joined Greater Zionfield Family Worship Center in Westwego, Louisiana, and held a dual membership at both churches. She found comfort in her faith and shared that love with everyone around her. Gail also had an extraordinary love for life and lived every moment to the fullest. Gail was a trailblazer. In 1967 she was the black queen of the Morgan City Shrimp and Petroleum Festival. She also graduated from Morgan City High School in 1969 as one of the first African Americans to attend. She treasured the moments spent with her family and was always ready to offer guidance, support, and a listening ear. Gail took great pride in being a part of a loving family, and her legacy continues through her child and grandchildren. Gail married the late George Bass Jr in the early 1980s and their union was blessed with a daughter, Jamika. Her daughter, Jamika, brought her much joy, and from this bond, Gail was blessed with three grandchildren: Bri'a Bass, Jayaun Harris, and the late John Harris III. Three great grandchildren Christi'yaun Craig, Carter Scott, and Jaxon Harris were a source of deep pride for Gail. Gail was a cherished sister to her brother, Evangelist Ronny ( DeShahn) Ruffin. Gail was also a doting aunt to her nieces and nephews: Jonathan Mack, Ronshwana Ruffin, Rochel Ruffin, Trinity Ruffin, Ricky Favors Jr, Ke'ron Ray, Dylan Ruffin, and K'Lynee Ward, and a loving Godmother to her God-daughter Leticia Charles, who all filled her heart with love. She also leaves to mourn her beloved extended family Elaine (Kenneth) Greene, John Harris Jr, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends
