FLORIDA ALMA JONES MERRICK, departed this life on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Harvey LA. She was 88 years old and was born in New Orleans LA on August 31, 2021. She was a lifelong resident of Buras LA and was retired from the Plaquemines Parish Government (Buras Auditorium) with many years of dedicated service. She was a devoted Christian baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness many years ago and enjoyed spreading the Good News to anyone who was willing to accept it through her field work and bible study.
Beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Ethling Jones. Devoted wife of the late Jessie Merrick. Loving mother of Joel Merrick, Rhoda Merrick St. Ann (Morris Jr.) Kim Merrick (Erica) and the late Kirk Merrick. Grandmother of Morris J. St. Ann III, Brandon Merrick, Martina Brown, Blake Merrick, Brad Merrick and Landon Alexis. Great grandmother of Brandon Jr., Bryce, Brett, Terence Jr., Tamren, Tayden, Tahj and Rome. Sister of Kirby Jones, Olga Beasly, Leverne Moses, Lula Mae Davis and the late Persey and Nolan Jones. Daughter in law of the late Alcide and Gertrude Merrick. Sister in law of the late Joseph and Beatrice Merrick, John Merrick, Eliska and Daniel Martin, Eugene and Arthemise Merrick and Emelda and Alvin Drexler. Best friend and devoted sister-in-law of the late Betty Jones.
Mrs. Merrick is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends whom she loved dearly.
The Merrick family would like to express their appreciation to everyone for the prayers, calls, visits, fruit baskets and waves from their neighbors. They would also like to acknowledge Daisy Jones, Racquel Wells and Elmira Rodgers for all their hands on generosity and devotion. Mrs. Merrick referred to them as her close friends and daughters.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Robinson Family Funeral Home located at 9611 LA-23, Belle Chasse LA. 70037. The visitation will begin at 12:30P.M. followed by a 1:30P.M. service. Entombment will immediately follow at Westlawn Memorial Park located at 1225 Whitney Ave. 70056
