Ernestine (Thomas) McKinnies

Ernestine Thomas McKinnies, First Lady of the Israel Baptist Church of Harvey, LA, transitioned from labor to reward on Friday, May 28, 2021, at Ochsner Hospital Westbank Campus.  She was 86 years old, and was born on Wednesday, August 29, 1934, in Rosedale, LA, to the union of Charles Harris Sr, and Rosetta Thomas.  She was a longtime resident of Harvey, LA.  

She was the devoted wife of Rev. Dr. Johnny M. Mckinnies Sr, who she referred to as the “Love of her life.”  Beloved mother of Nora Ann and Chester McKinley.  Stepmother of Johnny (Wanda) McKinnies Jr, Deborah (Erskin) Wesley, Lisa Grimes, and Clarence Walker Jr.  Cherished grandmother of Areesa (Travis) Austin, Shada (Jerome Sr) McKinley, and LaKeisha McKinley.  Step grandmother of Anthony Grimes, Joshua and Johnny McKinnies III.  Great grandmother of Delicia, Glenn, Ashia, Raheem, Sanya, Jerome Jr, and Serenity.  Great – great grandmother of Alanni and A’mere.  Sister Mckinnies is also survived by her devoted nephew, Minister Darryl McKinnies, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and devoted friends.  

She was predeceased by her parents, Charles Harris Sr, and Rosetta Thomas, her siblings, Ruby Williams, and Earl Harris Jr, her beloved grandparents who raised her after the death of her mother Eugene and Victoria Thomas.  

Relatives and friends of the family, also Pastor, officers, and members of Israel B.C, St. Joseph B.C, St. Paul B.C., Fisher Community Church, along with officers and members of Westside Missionary Baptist Association, as well as all neighboring churches and associations, the Old Harvey Civic Association are all invited to attend the Celebration of Life service on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Israel Baptist Church located at 1612 Esther Street, Harvey LA, 70058, at 10 a.m.  The visitation will begin at 8 a.m.  Minister Donald Williams will officiate and Pastor Orin D. Grant Sr, of the St. Paul B.C. of Gretna will deliver the eulogy.  Interment will follow at Restlawn Park Cemetery located at 3540 US – 90, Avondale, LA 70094.  

Everyone in attendance MUST wear a facemask or other proper facial covering and practice social distancing.
