Elmore "Romel" Barthelemy, age 81, passed away peacefully in his home
on Friday, July 25th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his wife, children
and grandchildren. Elmore was born on July 21st, 1944, in Diamond,
Louisiana to the late Andrew Barthelemy and Melanie Barthelemy. He
was the husband of Elta (Sylve) Barthelemy for 58 years-together they
built a life rooted in faith and love, raising three children and creating a
home filled with joy and laughter.
In his early life, Elmore faithfully served the Plaquemines Parish
community for over 45 years as a dedicated bus driver for both St. Jude
and Port Sulphur schools. His commitment extended well beyond the
school system-on Sundays, he willingly gave his time to transport
fellow parishioners to and from Mass, a quiet yet powerful reflection of
his enduring faith and love for his community. Outside of his service,
Elmore embraced the simple joys of life. He had a deep passion for duck
hunting and spent countless peaceful mornings in the bayou, often
alongside close friends. He also enjoyed fishing and treasured the
laughter and company those moments brought. One of his greatest
delights, however, was spending time with his grandchildren. Whether
sharing stories, sneaking in a soft-served ice cream treat, or picking
them up for an early-morning snack at the Donut Shop, Elmore was
always present-making ordinary moments feel special. His legacy lives
on not only in the lives he touched but also in the memories he created
with those he loved most.
Elmore will be deeply missed by his loving wife, sons, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, godchildren, and all who knew and loved him. He is
survived by his devoted wife Elta (Sylve) Barthelemy; his three beloved
sons: Keith Sr. (Colleen), Gregory Sr. (Demikia), and Wade Sr. (Ketisha);
nine grandchildren: Macy (Felix), Keith Jr., Olivia, Gregory Jr. (Allison),
Andrew (Ariana), Alexis, Wade Jr., Daylan, and Brayden. He also leaves
behind twelve cherished great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister-in-laws Angie Spencer (late Leon Sr.)
and Birdell Jackson (Carnell), and his brother-in-laws Angelo Sylve Jr.
(Mina), Nelson Sylve (Sylvia), and Marshall Sylve (Lisa).
Elmore was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Melanie
Barthelemy; his brother, Clarence Barthelemy; and two grandchildren.
