Edgar "June" Tanner, Jr.

New Orleans, LA - Edgar "June" Tanner, Jr. peacefully transitioned on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at LCMC Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana at the age of 80. He was born on June 25, 1944, in New Orleans, LA to Edgar Tanner, Sr. and Susie Coleman Tanner. Edgar accepted Christ and was baptized in 1989 at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida by his son Elder Bruce Tanner, Sr.

Edgar was educated in the New Orleans Public School System. He retired from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans. He also worked for many years as a Concession Vendor at the Louisiana Superdome. He loved baseball and was a former coach of the "Lorraine's Dugout" baseball team. He enjoyed watching the New Orleans Saints and would often travel to watch them play in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the former husband of the late Lois Ann DeVore.

Edgar leaves to cherish his memories, his longtime companion, Azalee Graham; children, Elder Bruce M. Tanner, Sr. (Andrea) of Baton Rouge, LA; Catherine Tanner Bracey of Tampa, FL; Sylvia Tanner James (Alfonso, III), Tyrone Tanner, Edgar Kenneth Hayes, Sr., and Enette Grant. Stepchildren: Laurie T. Landry (Byron, Sr.), Russell D. Tanner, Sr. (Brigitte), Franklin (Karen), Terry, and Nell Grant. Aunts: Earline Bell and Shirley McGee of Baton Rouge, LA. Special caregiver and devoted granddaughter and great grandson Irene and Bryan Grant, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Tanner, Sr., and Susie Coleman Tanner. A brother Henry Tanner, a sister, Dorothy Mae Tanner, sons; Noel and Kenneth Tanner; a stepson Harry Tanner and a grandson Edgar Kenneth Hayes, Jr.

Relatives, friends, officers and members of the First Love Fellowship, Franklin Avenue Baptist Church, Greater St. Mary B.C., Life Center Cathedral, Greater St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church and the Carmel Friendship Church in Wesley Chapel, Florida and neighboring churches are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Fischer Community Church 1737 L.B. Landry Avenue, New Orleans, LA. 70114. The public visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until the service time of 10:00am. Bishop J. Nelson Brown will officiate. Interment will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park, 10400 Old Gentilly Road, New Orleans, LA 70127.
