Delores Firven Gabriel

Delores "Welly" Firven Gabriel, departed this life on Monday, December 2, 2024, at her home in Avondale LA. She was blessed to see the age of 87 years old and was the last and youngest of six siblings.
Delores Firven Gabriel was born on January 26, 1937, in Waggaman, LA, to the late Freddie Sr., and Evelina Dodd Firven. She was baptized at an early age by the late Rev. Horace Leonard at Second St. John B.C. in Avondale, where she remained a faithful member until her departure.
Delores was united in holy matrimony to the late Clarence Gabriel Sr and to their union five children were born. Judy, Clarence Jr., Wallace, McDouglas and the late Janet Gabriel Edwards.
Delores also known as "Welly" attended Westwego Elementary and later attended Lincoln High School in Marrero, La. She was employed by Cutcher Canning Company in Westwego, Southern Shell Oyster Factory in Harvey, New Orleans Airport Janitorial Services and was later employed by Louisiana Superdome Catering Services in New Orleans LA. She was known for being very outspoken, and enjoyed going to the park, attending parades, eating good food, watching tv and listening to good music.
She leaves to cherish her memories to her four children, Judy (Alvin) Balls, Clarence Jr, Wallace (Joanna), and McDouglas (Darlene) Gabriel. Two godchildren, Fredrick L. Addison, and Everhelina Addison Dickerson, one sister-in-law, Mildren Birden Williams, 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Freddie Sr., and Evelina Dodd Firven, her husband Clarence Gabriel Sr., daughter Janet Gabriel Edwards. Three brothers Freddie Firven Jr., Isaiah Matthew Firven Sr., George Davis Sr., two sisters, Octavia Lee Firven Addison and Hazel Davis Birden, two uncles Jake Dodd and Richard Simmons, three aunts Mary Simmons Johnson, Sadie Dodd Scrubbs and Louisea Dodd as well as one great grand daughter Sairyona Cain.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life service which will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Second St. John Baptist Church located at 242 Avondale Garden Rd., Avondale, LA 70094. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Damien J. Brown officiating and interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Avondale, LA.
