Dolores Marie Laphand Collins was born on July 11, 1947, in Convent, Louisiana, to the late Cecilie Ellis Johnson and the late Edward Laphand. She attended Cypress Grove High School in Lutcher, Louisiana, and later made her home in Westwego, Louisiana, where she resided for over 53 years.
Dolores was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, the late Vernell Collins. Their beautiful union was blessed with five children: the late Bernell Collins, Vernell Collins Sr. (Lisa), Nakia Collins, Deshawnna Collins, and Tarrell Collins Sr.

A devoted woman of faith, Dolores was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church in Marrero, Louisiana where she served in the CCD program for a number or years. Dolores hosted Novenas in her home and Rosary Rallys in the community. She was well known for spreading the Good News of the Lord. Known for her exceptional cooking skills, she opened her home for all to be fed. Her culinary expertise contributed to various Community Congregations, including cooking for Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Orleans, LA. Dolores held other positions such as a manager at National Tape Corporation and a Home Health Care provider before becoming a home maker.
On October 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, God called Dolores home to eternal rest at West Jefferson Hospital.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her loving children; her siblings, Bernadette Williams of Westwego, LA, Kathleen Parnell, of Marrero, LA, Janet Sam (Femon) of Laplace, LA, Robert Johnson Jr. (Judy) of Reserve, LA, and Marion Jackson, of Darrow, LA,; 16 grandchildren and one excepted in February; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 godchildren, Michael Sly and Nicole Smith; She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who loved her dearly.
Dolores was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernell Collins; her parents, Cecilie Ellis Johnson and Edward Laphand; her son Bernell Collins; her sisters, Mary Louise Johnson, Carolyn Johnson, Roselee Williams, and Ruby Laphand; her brothers, Nolan Legeaux, John Paul Johnson, Roderick Johnson, Willie Clark and Robert Darville; her grandsons Trevor Clifton, Elijah Walker; and her niece Cecilia "Sweetie" Ellis.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church 455 Ames Blvd, Marrero, LA 70072. The visitation will begin at 8 a.m., and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Father Sidney Speaks III officiating and interment will be private.
