On July 18, 2022, the gates of Heaven opened and received another angel, “Pipe” Darryl Michael Lightell Sr. transitioned while residing at Tioga Community Care Center in Pineville Louisiana at the age of 65.
Darryl Michael Lightell Sr. was born January 29, 1957, in New Orleans Louisiana to the late Leonard Lightell Sr. and the late Amanda Verna Trufant Lightell. He was the grandson of the late George Ferdinand Trufant and the late Gertrude Hall Jason.
Beloved brother of Leonard (Marcia) Lightell, Linda (Joseph III) Glenn, Carl Lightell, Rochelle (John) Hightower, Inez (Jessie III) Johnson and the late Ernest Chris Lightell.
He was the beloved formerly husband of Carleen Lightell, devoted father of Daryln Ross, Darryl Michael Lightell Jr and Cartrina Lightell Watts. Grandfather of Juaneka, DaeKwann, JaKwann, Dariane, and Mi’. Great-grandfather of Payton, Paisley, and Kamerin. Godson of the late Melvin Smith and the late Shirley Trufant. Nephew of Marie Jackson, Virginia Trufant, Eugene Trufant, Nathan (Michelle) Trufant, Shirley Jason and Hannah Trufant.
Darryl was a native of Ironton, Louisiana. As a child, transiting to adult hood, he attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Ironton Louisiana. Darryl attended Belle Chasse High School and later worked for Brown and Root Industrial for many years. He resided in New Orleans, Gretna, and Pineville Louisiana. He loved old school vehicles and watching NFL football.
He also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, godparents, his brother, aunts, Martha Thomas, Diana Jason, Vera Allen, Shirley Lee, Gayle Trufant and uncles Haywood Johnson Sr, Andrew Jason, Fernand Trufant, and Nicholas Jackson Sr.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life services which will be held on Saturday, July 30th, 2022, at Robinson Family Funeral Home located at 9611 LA – 23, Belle Chasse, LA 70037. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m., and services will begin at 10 a.m. Pastor Haywood Johnson of St. Paul Baptist Church of Ironton, LA officiating.
