Command Master Chief Robert D. Bishop departed this earthly life on Monday, December 7, 2020 at his home in Harvey, Louisiana. He was 64 years old. He was born on July 24, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri as the oldest of three siblings.
Rob was a 1974 graduate of Jackson High School and was part of their football team. Rob served seven years in the Marine Corp, joining in 1975. He joined the Naval Reserve unit in Cape Girardeau in 1984, and became a full-time reservist in 1986. Rob spent three years on the USS Antrim. After moving to New Orleans, LA he quickly excelled in rank as the Command Master Chief of the Naval Base in New Orleans, LA. He lived in New Orleans for over 30 years with his loving wife Christine, daughter Stephanie, and son Robert who will all miss his presence.
He was survived by his mother Shirley (Jackson, MO), sister Lori (St. Peter, MO), and brother John (Springfield, MO). Rob was widely known for his extremely outgoing and easy personality and who loved to make his family and friends laugh. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends who turned into family, or anyone who met him. He was an irreplaceable kind of person.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the celebration of life services on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Christ Baptist Church 3000 Manhattan BLVD., Harvey, LA, 70058, at 10 a.m. The limited visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Dr. Harold Mosely officiating, and interment with military honors will follow at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery located at 34888 Grantham College Dr., Slidell, LA 70460.
