Clemon Graham Obituary

Loving, kind, spontaneous, compassionate, courageous, confident, protective, provider, lover of music, historian, phenomenal cook/chef, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, Uncle, brother, son, and great man of valor. Clemon Graham, born January 3, 1939, in Athens, Louisiana, is the son of Bessie "Deleon" Wright and Rev. Wesley Graham; grandson of Cornelia Washington Graham and Rev. James Henry Graham; great-grandson of Jane Johnson and Thomas Washington. Clemon entered into the heavenly realm of ancestors April 7, 2026 and will be memorialized April 17, 2026. Raised on a farm, baptized at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Clemon excelled academically, graduating as class valedictorian. His favorite cousin, Effie Lee Milner, served as his personal security during his school years. Upon graduation, Clemon enlisted in the United States Navy, undergoing training in San Diego, California, under Company 221 at USS MT McKinley (AGC7). As a naval recruit, he acquired valuable experience that prepared him for his future career. After nine weeks of training, he was commissioned as a Mail Petty Officer, later becoming a 193 Radio Operator and a Naval Disc Jockey, spreading joy to the world through his knowledge and passion for music across the airways. Clemon served in the Vietnam War, with his final duty assignment in Comeight, New Orleans. His military service resulted in numerous accommodations, including:a Clemon received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1972, due to a physical disability. Clemon served a total of 14 years, 6 months, and 14 days in active service, plus 3 years, 4 months, and 11 days in foreign/Sea Service. His final rank was E-6 in the U.S. Navy. His superior performance and leadership experience made him essential to the US Navy. For his service, we say, "Job Well Done!" After his honorable discharge, Clemon worked for McDermott Industries, built walking trails as a Park Ranger at Jean Lafitte National Park , and spent over 17 years dedicated in service to the Loyola Main Post Office under Pay-Location 213, processing and sorting our local mail. He never missed a day of work. Clemon was the youngest of Rev. Wesley and Bessie Graham. He was preceded in death by his four brothers: Willie Graham, Frank Graham, Joe Neal Graham, and Wilbert Graham, and three sisters: Leona Graham Gilbert, Vera Beatrice Graham Kelly, and Vonnie Graham Douglas. Ruthie Shine, his sister of Shreveport, LA (98 years old) is his only surviving sibling. Clemon entered into holy matrimony to Elouise Alexander June 27, 1981. From this Union three surviving children were born; Clemon Joseph Graham (Valerie), Ramona Cherie Graham, and Tracey Elizabeth Graham Taylor. One granddaughter by Clemonth Anastasia Williams (Cody) Great Grandson Cody Jr. and Great Grand-daughter Caleigh Three Grandchildren by Ramona, Eugene Eric Ridgley Jr., Sydneé Rene Ridgley, and Ashley Jada Whitney-Graham. One Great Granddaughter by Eugene, Eyana Azari Ridgley. Clemon will be missed and forever loved by his family and friends.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Greater St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church 182 W. St. Peter St., Belle Chasse LA. 70037. The visitation will begin at 8AM followed by a 10AM service. Dr. Darnell Smith Sr. will officiate and entombment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna.
