Brenda Cecelia Rodgers, age 82, entered eternal rest on February 24, 2026. She was born November 11, 1943, in Valley Lee, Maryland, to Viola Hill Green and John Green. She was raised by Enoch and Mary Briscoe ("Ms. Mercer") after the passing of her parents at an early age.
She was married to the late Senior Chief Donald Rodgers, Sr. on June 12, 1965. Together they raised three children: Renata Rodgers McPhie, Donald Rodgers, Jr., and Shari Rodgers Griffin.
Brenda was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School and Bowie State University, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. As a military spouse, she traveled extensively and taught students across the United States and abroad. In 1990, she settled in Plaquemines Parish, where she continued her career in education teaching in both Plaquemines and Jefferson Parish Public Schools until retiring in 2006. She was honored in May 2000 with the Jeanerette Senior High School "Inspiring Us to Do Our Best" award, after being nominated by a former student whose life she profoundly influenced.
Her greatest joy and proudest role was that of a loving mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were truly her pride and joy. She delighted in attending their sporting events, band performances, and extracurricular activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Viola Green; her beloved husband, Senior Chief Donald Rodgers, Sr.; and her son, Donald Rodgers, Jr; her sisters, Janet Commodore (late George), Norma Somerville (late Rudolph); her brother, Leonard Hill; her mother and fathers-in-law, Paul and Margarite Rodgers, Sr; her sisters-in-law, Anna Harvey, Barbara Marshall; brothers-in-law, Paul Jr. and Willie Rodgers.
